Re: DIDJ Hacking

I got my tracking number a day or two ago, my two should be in on Wednesday or Thursday of next week. Anyone in the texas/southern states that will be getting theirs sooner? (Midwest resident here).

@Claude: What was the thickness of the PCB you used? Did you have to modify anything to get the PCB to just pop into the cartridge socket?

@MaltedFalcon
The SD slot won't fit inside the cartridge slot and the jumper pins are for selecting the boot mode of the Didj (boot from uart,boot from flash)

@hookahjah
1.6mm standard thickness (at least in europe). But you have to glue some plastic sheet (~1mm , I used an piece of a CD case) on the backside of the cartridge.

Re: DIDJ Hacking

@claude Thanks for the pcb thickness and your board layout which was very helpful. I am working with hookajah to make a prototype version of your board (SD card/rx/tx/gnd/5v/jumpers something like that). But wont have my diji till wednesday so i have a question.

My question is how far is it from the inside of the cartridge slot till I can put items like header pins on the board? I think that makes sense.

Also what methods/products do you use to make your prototype boards? (The homemade ones)

Thanks

35mm from the inside.
I usually made prototypes with photoresist PCBs.

Brio interface docs?

I have two Didj units and one Leapster 2 arriving next week. Is there a reference for Leapster's "Brio" interface available anywhere? I'll have to re-read Claude's page to see how far he got with the on-board Linux after crafting (and grafting!) his own U-boot bootstrap. Great work, Claude!! :mrgreen:

I'm hoping to get them up on Batch PCB tomorrow. I'll post ordering info then.

Re: DIDJ Hacking

Awesomenesser and I received our Didj's today, and should be working on them tonight or tomorrow. Right now my plan is to etch a couple of breakout boards, and use an FTDI Cable and/or arduino with a breadboard to gain access to the console and other bits. The system is way bigger than I thought it would be. It is a little bit bigger than a Gameboy Advance, and the DC input is 9v, 700mA. I got it turned on, but to install the one game, you had to plug it into a PC, and I ran out of time on my lunchbreak. More to come.
